Case Study · Athos Training

Best for the client. Even when it takes us out of the deal.

A Founder Series introduction connected Athos Training to a better source of capital than the four million dollar round we were building for them, so we told them to take it.

Athos Training

Athos Training

Athos Training · Denver

Athos Training builds simulation-based workforce training for industries where safety, efficiency, and operational consistency decide the outcome. Transportation. Logistics. Industrial operations. The kind of work where a checklist is not the same thing as competence.

The founding team has more than 25 years in the field. CEO Nathan Stahlman built a training platform that became an industry standard, and he has exited multiple companies as a founder. The company is connected to Denver and is working with early partners to shape what comes next.

The mandate

A four million dollar seed round

Athos was raising a $4 million seed round. Roberto, founding partner of RG Syndicate, took the mandate to find the right capital for it.

  • Not the fastest capital.
  • Not the largest name.
  • The right capital: investors who understand what Athos is building, and who will stay steady while it gets built.

We had a path in mind and we started assembling it.

03

The room

Founder Series, Denver

On May 28, 2026, we hosted a Founder Series event at Grow House Co-Working, in the Trinity Place building in Denver. A full day, an invited room, operators and investors drawn from the RG network.

Nathan presented Athos and then ran a live simulation.

The room did not hear the product described. It watched the product work.

That is the whole reason the format exists: select the founder, gather the right room, and produce the day like it matters.

04

The turn

A conversation that kept going

A family office from our network was in that room. They started talking with Nathan, and the conversation did not end when the event did. It carried on for weeks.

What they brought was patient, aligned capital and real conviction about the team. That is a rare combination, and it is the combination this company needed.

05

The call

We argued for the other path

Most firms in our seat would have closed the round they had already built and called it a win. We had built that round. The family office was a better fit for this raise than the path we were building. Better alignment on timeline. Better temperament for a company that needs room to work.

Once we saw it clearly, there was only one honest thing to say.

Moving the raise there meant the deal, and the fee that came with it, left our book. We made the case for it anyway and helped manage the transition so nothing fell between the two sides. RG was compensated for the transition work only. On July 28, 2026, Athos moved forward with the family office.

The principle

We measure ourselves by where the client lands, not by what we keep. Athos needed a partner we could not be, so we found it, argued for it, and stepped out of the frame. Plus Ultra means going further than the mandate requires. Some days further means further away.

Further beyond

If you are raising, and you want a partner who measures success by where you land and not by what they keep, we want to hear from you. Founder Series is by invitation. If you want a seat in the next room, say so below.
